Hello, fellow Goal-Getters! Well it’s almost Halloween, and with my latest Netflix binges being “Luke Cage” and “Arrow”. It got me to thinking… a super-hero would totally hire Goal-Getter PM! See, I already have the logo for my outfit just in case I need to jump in on the action. There are five top qualities that are popular behind the scenes of heroic-project managers. Let’s dive in…
The top five qualities that make super-heroes want to hire Goal-Getter PM
1. Knows how to roam and get information without a hitch!
You may be asking why I kicked-off with this quality. Have you ever witnessed a super hero scene, where, at the last minute “hero support” comes rushing in? Then, gives the hero valuable information and let’s the hero decide the next action?
Yep, that’s Goal-Getter PM. Yes, I am an independent thinker when it comes to exchanges of information. Yet, I obtain the emotional intelligence to provide options to the hero based on a quick study of all the data. It’s not my job to make decisions, that’s on you! You hire Goal-Getter PM to provide information that leads to the best outcome for the project.
I cannot be a know-it-all as a Goal-Getter. A Goal-Getter wakes up reading the news about the latest tech, trending topics, who dropped an album recently for productivity time… A Goal-Getter loves to learn new strategies! You need to hire Goal-Getter PM, a person that has the knowledge from experience, education, and resources to help you achieve your strategic goals. I obtained my Master’s Certificate in Project Management last year, after realizing that I was already on my way to mastering the methodology of project management through work experience alone. I started Goal-Getter Project Management, LLC because I knew that there were many organizations that I could help.
One more thing on this quality, Goal-Getter PM can roam information without any direct connection to your business. I’m great at undercover work that provides the information you need to get an edge on the competition. Not to say this is needed for every project, but if it is necessary, I’m on the case! I am about that life.
2. Scope and Tech-savvy
Just to be clear, Goal-Getter PM IS your Siri/Google. I just asked Siri to “assemble the avengers”, with the new Mac Sierra OS, while writing this post. Siri said, “I’m not sure I understand.” SMH… didn’t Google teach you anything, Siri?! We live in a technology world! Why not have someone that understands your brand and technology? Goal-Getter PM is a firm believer of placing a target goal within the scope of your project. If you’ve ever been to a shooting range with equipment that has a scope mechanism, you know EXACTLY what I mean. Actually, if you’ve ever played any shooting game from “Duck Hunt” on Nintendo or “Call of Duty”, you know what I mean!
The first time I shot a gun, it was an AR-15. I had held a gun before years ago, out of curiosity; but, never had pulled the trigger. There’s nothing difficult about pulling a trigger, though. It’s about where the bullet lands. You need to take time to plan the shot with big guns. Learn the most optimal angles. The same applies to big goals! Goal-Getter PM strives to make sure that your target is always in your scope and I use technology to enhance that achievement. Previous clients have hired Goal-Getter PM to address this issue of how technology can help to grow their businesses.
3. Stays within boundaries
Goal-Getter PM understands that super-heroes have taken the time/effort to figure out:
- a ballpark cost for your project,
- what it the end result should look like,
- how soon it needs to be completed.
Actually, it’s my job to help you put a microscope to all the decisions around those three things (at minimum) to keep the project as close to the plan of action as possible.
We all know that threats are involved with any super-hero mission. The key is knowing what you can do about those threats. These decisions get the best outcomes when considered before project launch. That is one reason why I am a huge supporter of the Goal-Getter Project Charter Template (click the link for more details). My favorite part of the project management plan for small businesses is the risk assessment. When you write your strategic goals in a SMART format the risk assessment helps you find places where you need to bridge the gap to achieve the goal. My goal is to get your project to each milestone, successfully, while staying within the boundaries of all resources. I color outside the lines all the time in life, but in my business, I like to understand how bold the border of the box is, so I know how much “wiggle room” we have to keep us on the project track. So your project isn’t looking back at you like:
4. Has experience in various backgrounds
“Been around the world, and I-I-I”, if you know this song, you’ve probably guessed it, I did not find my baby. After graduating from Colorado State University, I took on a plethora of jobs that did not quite fit the Sociology degree I had obtained. And I am glad! I learned, very quickly, that the ultimate jobs in the industry, were not really for me. Sociology aided me in being understanding to various backgrounds and situations because the curriculum included a lot of psychology. I’ve worked in various construction, transport, technology, start-up, and nonprofit organizations (just to name a few). I’ve learned so much that I knew Goal-Getter Project Management, LLC is needed for small business super-heroes, like you.
What I did find, is that project management tools and techniques is not being used in every corporate and small business. Project management removes all the busy work that happens in a project that is no longer in scope. Project Management is best fit for super-heroes that have a mission statement and know their purpose and are active in achieving bigger and better goals. Goal-Getter PM makes it easier to to stay focused.
5. Learns all the lessons available and documents them
Collecting data is key in project management, from start to finish. Before all discovery calls (a free service), I research the super-hero to get their mind-space for the project. I check out websites, overall messages, and the latest activities on social media. I don’t care what other people are saying about a super-hero, I care more about what they say, about themselves. After that quick analysis, I have everything I need for a “Discovery Call”.
“Listen, first.” says Stephen Covey, in Seven Habits of Highly Effective People (1989).
During a discovery call, I listen to the mission statement/purpose, goals, other details you want to provide about your business, and the upcoming project you’d like to get to the finish-line. Goal-Getter PM records documentation from day one after sign-up for a discovery call. I also record any communication that provides new information that will need to be updated in the project. “You’re gonna learn today”, said every first project, to a project manager… so I learned, after the first time; and started writing the lessons down for future super-heroes to use.
Here’s the point:
You are the super hero of your business. If you’ve made it this far: I’ve been looking for you. If you have found this information valuable; I’ve been looking for you. Serving others is one of my gifts and that is the main pillar of my mission statement/purpose.
